Sumi And Gold

Guardian of the Ancient Forest

This stag stands in the shallows and faces you, golden leaves growing from its antlers, like a guardian of the forest behind it. The red seal reads 護 (go, 'protection'), from shugoshin, the Japanese word for a guardian spirit that watches over a place. Part of the Sumi and Gold collection, where the art of Japanese ink (sumi-e, 墨絵) meets gold.
